The Brisbane to Bundaberg Yacht Race is the newest ocean race on the Queensland calendar — a 250-nautical-mile Category 3 offshore challenge up the coast from Brisbane to Bundaberg, run by the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. Introduced in 2026, it adds a fresh blue-water option to the programme of Invicta's home club.
What it is
The race is a point-to-point offshore passage of 250 nautical miles, from Brisbane north up the scenic Queensland coast to Bundaberg. As a Category 3 offshore race, it demands proper safety equipment and offshore preparation, testing crews' skill, strategy and seamanship in genuine open water — the discipline covered in our guides to offshore versus inshore racing and crew positions.

The RQYS connection
The race is run by the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron at Manly — the same historic club that starts the Brisbane to Keppel race and is home to this campaign, as our boat page describes. Held in June, in the Queensland winter, it slots into the cooler, drier months when the south-easterly trade winds give a good run north, alongside the state's other winter offshore fixtures.
How to enter and follow
Entries and the Notice of Race are published by the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. Crews should confirm the Category 3 safety and equipment requirements and enter before the deadline. The first boat to Bundaberg takes line honours, with the overall result decided on corrected time under handicap — see line honours versus handicap. For the wider home-waters scene, see sailing in Brisbane and Moreton Bay, and the sailing terms glossary for the language.
